Before heading back south to Northfield, I ducked out for a short jaunt up the Lutsen Ski Hill to take some more pictures of the fall foliage. What a nice weekend!

Cascade River, North Shore, MN
Gloria and I headed up to the Cascade River State Park to check out the river and the lake. I love the North Shore rivers, swirling and tumbling through their canyons trying to reach Lake Superior.

Superior Hiking Trail, Caribou Trail to Lutsen
I managed to squeeze in a nice long hike on the Superior Hiking Trail during my weekend in Lutsen. I headed south from the Caribou Trail road to Lutsen, passing Lake Agnes and views of the Poplar River valley to the west.
Distance: 6.8 miles
Elevation gain: 500 feet?

Oberg Mountain, Tofte, MN
This is one of my favorite hikes in Minnesota, especially during the fall leaf peeper season. There are a lot of maples along the trail, and there are nice views to the west of the maples on the mountain ridge and to the east of Lake Superior. It's a relatively short hike of 3 some miles, so it can be done in an hour or two.
